Shamrock Milkshakes: Good for the Hips, Good for the Lips

In addition to loving cake and cookies, I also love milkshakes. As you can imagine, this does not lend itself to staying within one’s healthy BMI range. To keep my lbs. in check and satiate my milkshake hankerings, I whip up a Shamrock Shake just about daily.

Shamrock Shakes are smooth, rich, and creamy sweet; just like a milkshake should be. Unlike traditional milkshakes, Shammy Shakes (let’s get Tom Haverford on ’em) are great for your waistline, your heart, and the whole rest of you, too! They’re packed with protein, offer a good bit of fiber, and even include a smidge bit of good-for-you fat.

I love them. I seriously love Shamrock Shakes and tell all my friends about them…. Side note: if you’re my friend in real life, I’m sorry for constantly talking about Shammy Shakes. I just want you to love them, too! Back on track, Shamrock Shakes include milk (whatever kind you like), almond butter, a frozen banana, vanilla extract and/or almond extract, and wait for it…

Spinach! I know, I’m probably the last person to get on board with the whole green smoothie thing, but the hype is true. A small handful of spinach is undetectable to the palette and adds so much healthy goodness!

Oh, one final ingredient. Appetite is strongly driven by the eyes and I find a sprinkle of sprinkles makes my eyes happy. Yes, they’ve got high fructose corn syrup and crazy dyes, but a sprinkle of sprinkles won’t likely kill me and here’s betting the antioxidants in the spinach will destroy any evilness in the sprinkles.

SHAMROCK MILKSHAKES – Make Me Cake Me
Makes about a 112-ounceshake

3/4 to 1 cup milk of your choice
1 tablespoon almond butter
1 teaspoon vanilla and/or almond extract
1 frozen banana (Peel before freezing!)
1 small handful of spinach
1 sprinkle of sprinkles

Add all ingredients, excluding sprinkles, into your blender. Use 1 cup milk for a thinner shake or 3/4 cup for a thick shake. Also, don’t skimp on the extracts. That’s what gives Shamrock Shakes their yummy milkshake flavor. Blend until smooth, pour into a glass, toss in a pretty straw, and sprinkle on your sprinkles. Enjoy!
